Roxbury Memorial High School (first) opens.
August 31, 1840
Originally Roxbury High School for Boys, it is located at today’s 120 Dudley Street. The school moves to a new building (second) on today’s Kearsarge Avenue in 1853, to a shared building (third) with Roxbury High School For Girls on Kenilworth Street in February 1861, then to a new building (fourth) on Warren Street in 1885* (1891), and another new building (fifth) on Townsend Street in 1926.* Graduates include casino mogul Sheldon Adelson. The school closes in 1958, and is reestablished in 1972.
